    Typhoon season on Korea FED construction sites

    Typhoon season on the Korean peninsula occurs May 15 through Nov. 30. Surrounded by bodies of water, the Korean peninsula is subject to typhoons that cause heavy showers and hazardous weather conditions. For U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Far East District (FED), processes are in place to protect employees, construction sites, and the surrounding community. Professionals do a smooth transition, shifting gears in preparation for typhoons.

    David Montes Jr. has answered a panoply of calls from Soldiers throughout his 22-year Army career. Two years ago, Montes decided to answer another, much higher call: to become a Chaplain. His decision to answer this particular call has placed him on a new path as a Chaplain candidate in the U.S. Army Reserves.

    Between the 1960s-1980s, North Korea dug tunnels under the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) in an attempt to conduct a surprise invasion of South Korea from underground.
  • Tim Sepkoski: transitioning from boots to business shoes

    Former Army Staff Sergeant Timothy Sepkoski recently received an end-of-service award from the Far East District for his military service as a Quality Assurance Representative (QAR) within the Southern Resident Office (SRO). His dedication and hard work throughout his time as a Soldier with SRO showcased how much of an asset he was to the team, which helped in securing a job during Sepkoski’s transition from Soldier to Civilian.

    As the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Far East District (FED) remembers the accomplishments of its past, the District also takes a few moments to learn about the new mission of an important part of its history, the former FED headquarters Dongdaemun compound.
  • Far East District’s STEAM outreach thrives despite COVID-19 restrictions

    “If you’re bored with playing, you can just go to the pool,” explained one student while showcasing his dream house design. “I see a future engineer!” exclaimed Chad McLeod, chief of Construction Division. For the second year in a row, United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Far East District (FED) volunteers virtually shared their Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math (STEAM) expertise and captured children’s imaginations with engaging STEAM activities, May 27. The event was a part of a relationship with Humphreys Central Elementary School that started in 2013.
  • Largest aircraft hangar overseas passes High Expansion Foam Dump testing

    The Far East District engineer team passed a major milestone in the construction of project AV051 CY16 ROKFC In-Kind, A05R507, 3rd Military Intelligence Aircraft Maintenance Hangar Complex, by successfully completing a High Expansion Foam Dump test in the largest U.S. Army hangar overseas at USAG Humphreys, Pyeongtaek, Republic of Korea, Jun. 3. The District is well on their way to a building turnover to the 3rd Military Intelligence Battalion, based at USAG Humphreys.

    Far East District commits to support USFK Strength in Diversity effort

    USAG HUMPHREYS, Republic of Korea — U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Far East District (FED) Deputy Commander, Lt. Col. Dennis J. McGee, participated in the Strength in Diversity Pledge Ceremony at U.S. Forces Korea (USFK) headquarters, May 13. The event was hosted by the USFK Strength in Diversity Council, which was created to tackle Gen. Robert B. Abrams’ priority of Strength in Diversity. On behalf of the District, McGee signed the pledge to commit FED to maximizing efforts in promoting an environment of diversity, inclusion, and equity.
  • FED fortifies partnership with 11th Engineer Battalion in the Indo-Pacific

    USAG HUMPHREYS, Republic of Korea -- U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Far East District (FED) hosted a visit for 40 Soldiers assigned to the 11th Engineer Battalion, May 13, to educate them on the impact FED has in the Indo-Pacific, and to strengthen the partnership by exploring opportunities that are mutually beneficial.
