    Team training testifies of talent, tenacity

    The Far East District employs a talented and hard-working group of mechanics who maintain a diverse fleet of vehicles and equipment. To keep their skills sharp, the motor pool team attends training both locally and abroad.

  • Root Cause Analysis training presented

    Root Cause Analysis training was presented to several different audiences of the Far East District one week in May 2016; an overview of what Root Cause Analysis is and how it can be used with one or more of several tools to solve problems most effectively.
  • Ka Young Shim, an Architect in Engineering Division’s Design Branch, was recently selected as the Far East District’s “Emerging Leader.” The emerging leader program is a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers initiative geared to develop employees’ leadership skills and future development. Here, Shim works with another FED employee at a STEM event, testing the load-bearing capacity of toothpick bridges designed and built by students at Seoul American Middle School.

    Team earns crucial certifications

    All eligible employees of the Resource Management Office and the Internal Review Office have earned DoD Financial Management certifications, a mandatory requirement which began in July 2014 for eligible employees in the 500 series (Financial Management) as a condition of employment due by 2016.

    Trio retires at large friendship event

    More than 300 people attended a hosted dinner honoring three retiring officers, Col. Philip A. Keller, Col. Michael D. Nyenhuis and Lt. Col. Mitchell A. DeMarais, on Friday, April 22, 2016. The event commemorated the three officers' over 95 years of combined service, and was presided over by Maj. Gen. James T. Walton, director of USFK Transformation and Restationing.

    Ribbon-cutting opens railhead

    The railhead at Camp Humphreys was officially opened in a ribbon-cutting ceremony, and a tracked engineer recovery vehicle was the first vehicle to roll off the train and onto the railhead on Feb. 17, 2016.

    On April 30, 2013, the garrison chaplain met with the FED construction team and the construction contractor, and held a prayer ceremony on the freshly placed floor slab of Chapel #1 in lieu of a traditional groundbreaking.

    Nearly completed chapel cheers chaplain, community

    The first of four new chapels is nearly completed on Camp Humphreys, and is slated to be put into use by mid-2016.

    The commander of the Far East District of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Col. Stephen H. Bales, received the Korean name Kim Sin-yu at a ceremony held at the Ministry of National Defense Convention Center on Nov. 19, 2015.

    Commander receives Korean name

    The Republic of Korea-U.S. Alliance Friendship Association presented a Korean name to Col. Stephen H. Bales, commander and district engineer of the Far East District of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, at a ceremony at the Korea Ministry of National Defense on Nov. 19.
