    Army engineers inspire young minds in South Korea through two hands-on STEM events

    No mission is too difficult and no task is too great for the United States Army Corps of Engineers - Far East District. To tackle the challenge of inspiring and educating the next generation in STEM-related fields, the district hosted a series of interactive events at two Camp Humphreys elementary schools in South Korea in May to demonstrate real-world applications of STEM concepts with over 1,000 students.

    FED intern spotlight: Lauren Wougk

    Lauren Wougk began her career with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) as a student employee with the Transatlantic Middle East District (TAM) in the summer of 2019. Wougk was later hired as a Department of Army (DA) intern in October 2021, when she acquired her master’s degree in civil engineering at Rutgers University.

    Workforce Recruitment Program internship proves talent comes in many forms

    At the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Far East District (FED), efforts to diversify the workforce are strengthened through the Workforce Recruitment Program.

    Far East District’s experts regulate asbestos to protect environment and USFK personnel

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Far East District (FED) Environmental Section has two accredited environmental laboratories: a chemistry laboratory and an asbestos laboratory. The chemistry laboratory was validated by the USACE Hazardous, Toxic, and Radioactive Waste Mandatory Center of Expertise in September 2004. The asbestos laboratory obtained the Industrial Hygiene Laboratory Accreditation from the American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA) on July 1, 2005, and has been audited every two years, maintaining accreditation.
