    USACE Far East District inspires curiosity through STEAM outreach across three schools in South Korea

    CAMP HUMPHREYS, South Korea – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers – Far East District (FED) engaged more than 2,000 students during its annual Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM) outreach events at Humphreys West Elementary School (HWES), Osan Elementary School (OES) and Humphreys Central Elementary School (HCES) in May 2026.

    The Republic of Korea Ministry of National Defense – Defense Installations Agency and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers – Far East District held their first joint symposium of 2026 on June 1 at Camp Humphreys, South Korea. This continues a series of workshops launched in 2025 to foster a better understanding of execution processes and regulations for both FED and MND-DIA.

    Bridging the gap: How one service member found professional growth at USACE Far East District

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers – Far East District (USACE FED) integrated the Department of War’s SkillBridge program in 2025 to provide transitioning service members with professional development and civilian career opportunities. Recently, FED welcomed former intern and military officer, Joel Padilla, now a project manager in the Central Area Branch.

    A Career of Advocacy and Experience: Larry Estrada Joins Far East District as Deputy District Counsel

    CAMP HUMPHREYS, South Korea – Larry Estrada brings with him more than three decades of federal service and a wealth of legal expertise as he steps into his role as deputy district counsel at the for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers – Far East District. Estrada joined the Office of Counsel in January 2026. The position marks both a promotion and his first overseas assignment.

    When Staff Sgt. Kidam Paik was contemplating his future career, he wanted to ensure it would benefit society. Hence, he decided to pursue a degree in road development. Kidam’s ambition was to build road systems in low- and middle-income countries to improve their infrastructures. Driven by a desire to build real roads, he followed a metaphorical path to USACE FED as a SkillBridge intern.
  • Honoring Mr. Wang Hui-chan’s 43 Years of Service honored with de Fleury Medal

    CAMP HUMPHREYS, South Korea – Mr. Wang Hui-chan, chief of the Cost Engineering Branch for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers – Far East District (USACE FED), received the Silver Order of the de Fleury Medal from Brig. Gen. Joseph “Clete” Goetz II, commander of the USACE Pacific Ocean Division, on April 14, 2026. The prestigious award recognizes his 43-year career years of service, defined by technical expertise in cost engineering and leadership on key projects that strengthened the engineering partnership between the U.S. and South Korea.
